How to Grow Your Own Edible Garden




Composting Class

Well the class was a success, and we built our first compost Bin, using four pallets, star pickets, chicken wire and pea straw. The pea straw is to insulate the compost heap form heat and cold. We added some material and should see some usefull compost in a couple of weeks.

What to put in a compost

Good

Vegetable Peelings
Vegetable Oil
Prunings
Lawn Clippings
Hair
Non- shiney printed material
Tea bags
Coffee Grounds
Vacumn Bag Dust
Leaves
Used Potting mix
Egg shells
Flowers
Wood Ash
Weeds, annuals no couch or ivy

Bad

Meat and diary products
Large branches
Coloured paper(shiny magazine paper)
Bleached paper
Diseased plant material
Weeds like kikuyu and oxalis
